Hundreds of short films from around the world have been submitted to the new comedy festival held under the aegis of Anchor Grup, organized by Plaza Romania and hosted by Movieplex Cinema.
The submission period for the Comedy Short Film Festival @ Plaza Romania has finished in December 2014 and the official selection will be announced in February 2015.
The selection committee has watched over 700 shorts in order to determine which films will compete in the three sections of the festival – Official Competition, Student Film Competition and Animation Competition. The comedies that were submitted cover a wide variety of genres: from black comedy to kids comedy (for and with children), to romantic comedy, parody, silent film, to fantastic, absurd, ” slapstick comedy ” and musical.
The countries that have submitted the biggest number of films to the first edition of the Comedy Short Film Festival @ Plaza Romania were France, Argentina, Germany, Switzerland and Romania, but the selection committee also received many films from the US, UK, Denmark, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Canada, Norway, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands. Most short films have a strong track record as they were shown at important festivals such as Cannes, Clermont -Ferrand, Seattle, TRIBECA, Brest and Eurasia Short Film Festival. The short films submitted to Comedy Short Film Festival @ Plaza Romania were not „short” of stars; for instance, one of the animations was submitted by Antonio Banderas’ production company. As for the Romanian shorts, well known actors like Ion Lucian, Andi Vasluianu, Magda Catone, Paul Ipate and Serban Pavlu star in some of the films.
The prizes for the first edition of the festival are: Best Comedy Short Film Award Plaza (1500 euros), Comedy Best Student Short Film Award (1000 euros) and Best Animation Comedy Short Film Award (1000 euros). Comedy Short Film Festival @ Plaza Romania is the only comedy short film festival organized in a mall in Romania and will take place in Movieplex (Plaza Romania). Anchor Grup, a company that actively supports the arts, has organized this festival in order to reward talented and creative filmmakers as well as the customers of Plaza Romania.
